Impacts of China in Latin America and the Caribbean

Millennium Nucleus ICLAC

The Millennium Nucleus on the Impacts of China in Latin America and the Caribbean (or Núcleo Milenio sobre los Impactos de China en América Latina) (ICLAC), is an interdisciplinary proposal that seeks to address one of the biggest foreign policy and sustainable development challenges facing developing countries: the rise of China as their main economic partner, and the concomitant increase of China’s political influence on the political agendas of these countries. The impacts of China in Latin America and the Caribbean (ALC) is paradigmatic, as 67% of the continents population lives in a country where China is the main economic partner.
The general objective of this Nucleus is to deepen the understanding of the political consequences of China’s “capital boom” in Latin America over the last twenty years, both in its socioeconomic and cultural dimensions.
