Evelyn Hu-Dehart

Evelyn Hu-DeHart is a Professor at Brown University. She holds a BA from Stanford University and PhD from the University of Texas at Austin.

She has taught at different universities, including the City University of New York, New York University, Washington University in St. Louis, the University of Arizona, and the University of Michigan, as well as lecturing at universities and colleges and research institutes in Mexico, Peru, Cuba, France, Hong Kong, Taiwan and China. She has received two Fulbright Fellowships, in Brazil and Peru.

Amongst others, her research topics address the history of Asian communities in the Americas, diaspora, and transnationalism. Her research addresses indigenous people on the border between the US and Mexico; Asian people in the Americas, with a focus on the Chinese diaspora in Latin America and the Caribbean; diversity, multiculturalism and race.

Among her publications “Across the Pacific: Asian Americans and Globalization” (Temple University Press, 1999), and “Voluntary Organizations in the Chinese Diaspora” (co-edited with Khun Eng Kuah-Pearce, Hong Kong University Press, 2006) stand out.
