Carol Wise

Carol Wise is a senior professor at the University of Southern California, United States. She holds a BA in Sociology from the University of California; and a MPA and PhD in Political Science from Columbia University.

Carol specializes in international political economy and development, with an emphasis on Latin America and Asia Pacific. She has researched extensively on trade integration, currency crises, institutional reform, and the political economy of market restructuring in the region. In 2019 she held the Distinguished Professorship at Fulbright Masaryk University, Czech Republic.

Her publications include “Reinventing the State: Economic Strategy and Institutional Change in Peru (Development And Inequality In The Market Economy)” (University of Michigan Press, 2003); “The Political Economy of China-Latin America Relations in the New Millennium” (coedited with Margaret Myers, Routledge, 2016) and “Dragonomics: How Latin America Is Maximizing (or Missing Out on) China’s International Development Strategy” (Yale University Press, 2020).
