From June 20 to 24, Claudia Labarca, Principal Investigator at the Millennium Nucleus ICLAC and Professor at the UC School of Communications, participated in the 74th Annual Conference of the International Communication Association (ICA), held this year in Gold Coast, Australia.
This year's conference focused on communications and human rights, current practices, and assessments of contributions in this research area.
Labarca presented the paper "Borrowing Microphones: The instrumentalisation of Media Partnerships in China’s Public Diplomacy Efforts in Latin America" on June 21, alongside researchers Pablo Morales and Paulo Menechelli.
She also participated in the panel "Truth Discernment to the Test: Examining Resilience to Misinformation in Chile During Political and Sanitary Crises" and attended the Public Relations Business Meeting as an International Liaison.
Additionally, on June 25, Labarca took part in the post-conference “The Impact of Public Relations and Promotional Communication on Human Rights, Inequalities and Social Justice: Interdisciplinary reflections and future directions" with the presentation “Are we (even) there yet? The role of communication departments on DEI – related issues in Latin America and the Caribbean" alongside researchers Gabriel Sadi (Huddersfield University) and Alejandro Álvarez Nobell (University of Málaga).
The International Communication Association (ICA) has over 4,500 members across 80 countries and aims to advance and promote the academic study of communications, fostering excellence in research worldwide.
