ICLAC conducts a successful online workshop to understand the relationship between Chile and China

To deepen understanding of the historical and current relationship between Chile and China, last Thursday, August 28th, the online workshop "Getting to know China from Chile" was held, an initiative organized by the Millennium Nucleus ICLAC that brought together more than 30 people from different cities and regions of the country, who actively participated in a day of learning and dialogue.

The initiative is part of the "Getting to Know China from Chile" project, funded through ANID's External Outreach Fund (PME), which aims to take academic discussions beyond the capital and connect with local realities, fostering critical and informed dialogue about the relationship with the Asian giant.

The first part of the workshop was led by an ICLAC researcher and professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, José Miguel Vidal, who provided a comprehensive overview of the ties between both nations. During his presentation, he addressed China's cultural and geographical diversity, the main milestones of Chinese migration to our country, the development of diplomatic relations, and the profound economic exchange that has positioned China as a key commercial partner.

Following Vidal's presentation, a valuable conversation space was opened. The participants organized into groups to share their experiences and perceptions about China's presence and impact in their own communities. This exchange generated an enriching debate about contemporary phenomena such as "Chinese malls" and their role in local commercial and social dynamics.
