Abstract: The expansion of Chinese malls in Chile presents both challenges and opportunities for local economic development, requiring differentiated public intervention strategies according to territorial context. This policy brief identifies key implications of the evolution of these stores across territories, such as commercial diversification, competition for established businesses, unmet demand in rural areas, and rapid transformations in metropolitan zones. Public policies must promote a balanced commercial ecosystem that maximizes benefits for consumers while ensuring the sustainability of traditional commerce through ongoing monitoring.
