Francisco Urdinez Participated in Workshop on the China-U.S. Rivalry

On December 17th, 2025, the workshop "The China-U.S. Rivalry: A Strategy for Chile" was held at the
Center for Liberty and Development Studies, featuring the participation of ICLAC director and UC Political Science professor Francisco Urdinez, , former Chilean Ambassador to China Jorge Heine , and former Chilean Ambassador to the United States Alfonso Silva. The meeting focused on analyzing the challenges of Chilean foreign policy in the face of the rivalry between the two powers, before an audience that raised questions about the scenario the country will face in the short term.

During the activity, Urdinez presented his book Economic Displacement, where he explains how China has occupied the economic void left by the U.S. in Latin America between 2001 and 2020. His research highlights that this displacement is not only commercial but has generated a change in regional political influence, challenging conventional narratives and transforming the landscape of global geopolitical competition in the Southern Cone.
