Between March 2nd-5th, 2025, Millennium Nucleus ICLAC thesis student Luciano Quispeparticipated in the International Studies Association (ISA) Annual Convention 2025, one of the most relevant international conferences in International Relations. The convention was held in Chicago, Illinois and brought together academics, researchers, and specialists from various disciplines to discuss emerging trends and global challenges in international politics, economics, security, and global governance. The ISA, founded in 1959, is one of the most influential organizations in the study of international relations, with more than 7,000 members worldwide.
On the occasion, Luciano Quispe presented a paper based on his doctoral research advances, titled “Chinese State-Owned Enterprises in Latin America: Strategic Concerns for Domestic Elites”. His work examines the impact of Chinese state-owned enterprise investment in Latin America, with special attention to national elite reactions in countries like Chile and Peru. Through qualitative and comparative analysis, Quispe seeks to identify factors that explain contestation dynamics and mechanisms that elites activate to limit or condition the presence of Chinese capital in the region.
Quispe's participation in the ISA Annual Convention 2025 evidences the relevance of his research within global academic debate and strengthens Millennium Nucleus ICLAC's contribution to analyzing China-Latin America relations.
