Open call for free course on the impacts of China in Latin America

The classes are focused on the general public and will be taught online

From January 15 to 19, 2024, the summer course “Impacts of China in Latin America” will be held, organized, and taught by researchers from the Millennium Nucleus ICLAC, together with the Institute of International Studies of the University of Chile (IEI).

The course, free and online (via Zoom), seeks to understand the contemporary impact of China in Latin America from various perspectives and disciplines, while addressing the following questions: When and how did relations between China and China begin? What is the interest that Latin America generates in China? What are the strategies that China uses to approach Latin America? What are the various economic, political, and social impacts of the Chinese presence in the region?

Some of the topics that will be addressed in classes include: An introduction to the geography and history of China, historical Chinese migration in Latin America, the political system of the People's Republic of China, environmental perspectives, the Belt and Road Initiative, the opinion of the Chilean elites and the discourses around China, the case of lithium and the automotive industry, and the impact of China in Latin America for the future.
