  • What do you expect from your visit to Chile?

Above all, I hope to learn about Chile from Chilean experts. I hope to learn about the process by which Chile defines its foreign policy, what actors are involved, what objectives they have, what challenges they face, etc.

  • If you had to summarize the impact of China on Latin America, you would say…

Although it has had many impacts on LAC, what I want to mention is that the rise of China has allowed more space or autonomy for countries in the region to expand their international relations beyond the US. There are more opportunities.

I have two, sorry. In Santiago it's Cerro San Cristobal (and not just because we talked about it this morning), and in Chile it's the Atacama Desert.

  • What book are you reading?

It is called "Next Year in Havana" by Chanel Cleeton. It is the first book in a series about a Cuban family in exile after the revolution, the daughters and granddaughters searching for their roots and stories. It is also a book of love, both romantic and love for their country.
