Rhys Jenkins is Emeritus Professor at the University of East Anglia, UK. He holds an MA from the University of Cambridge, and a PhD from the University of Sussex.
Rhys is an economist by training whose interests concern international development issues, particularly trade and foreign investment, and industrialization. He has led research projects on globalization and the environment, and globalization and poverty. He has been a consultant for several international bodies, including UNCTAD, UNIDO and UNRISD, and for the Department for International Development.
His current research focuses on the impact of China's growth on other developing countries, especially in Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa, within the framework of a larger research project on the economic, social, and environmental impacts of globalization. He has recently been researching the impacts of China's global expansion on other developing countries.
His publications include “How China is Reshaping the Global Economy: Development Impacts in Africa and Latin America” (Oxford University Press, 2018, Second Edition 2022); and “Industry and Development in Latin America” (Routledge, 2018).
