Salón de Honor San Alberto Hurtado Cruchaga (2°piso)
This Thursday, August 3, the Millennium Nucleus Impacts of China in Latin America and the Caribbean (ICLAC) will be launched, an interdisciplinary proposal that seeks to deepen the understanding of the political consequences of China's “capital boom” in Latin America in the past twenty years, both in its socioeconomic and cultural dimensions.
The event will feature a keynote speech by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile, Dr. Alberto Van Klaveren, and by Dr. Cynthia Sanborn, Senior Researcher of the Millennium Nucleus ICLAC and researcher at the Research Center of the University of the Pacific, Peru.
Francisco Urdinez, Director of the Nucleus, points out that China is expected to become the largest economy in the world between 2026 and 2030.“It has been such a huge phenomenon that there has not yet been a systematization and a complete understanding of it. We seek to contribute to the formulation of foreign policy towards China and provide information that allows us to better understand the impacts of China throughout Chile."
Alternate director, María Montt, mentions for her part that “The Nucleus highlights the strong presence of China and the lack of joint research”.
The Millennium Nucleus ICLAC is housed at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Chile, Universidad Chile, Universidad Católica Norte, and Universidad Tarapacá, and comprises researchers from these and other national and international universities. ICLAC is funded and supported by the Millennium Scientific Initiative of the National Research and
Development Agency (ANID).
Desarrollo (ANID).
The launch will take place on August 3 at 9:00 a.m. in the San Alberto Hurtado Cruchaga Hall of Honor of the Central House of the Pontificia Universidad Católica Chile (Av. Libertador Bernardo O'Higgins 340, Santiago). The event will be held in person and broadcast through the UC Events Channel (Youtube)
