Young researcher and former thesis student (2024) of the Millennium Nucleus ICLAC, Renzo Burotto, participated from October 12 to November 1 in the “Visiting Program for Young Sinologists 2025” , whose main venue was the city of Shanghai, China.
The initiative, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China and coordinated by the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS), aims to build a global platform to support young scholars in conducting studies on China, facilitating research and fostering collaboration with local institutions and experts.
Renzo Burotto joined an international delegation of more than 20 sinologists from countries including Argentina, Uruguay, Venezuela, Spain, Italy, and Turkey.
The program focused on "Research on Chinese Characteristics and the Global Significance of Chinese Modernization." The agenda included attendance at the Second World Conference on China Studies and a research trip to Shandong Province to visit the cities of Qingdao and Qufu. Subsequently, the program continued in Shanghai with a series of keynote lectures and workshops at SASS, focused on developing an academic article.
Regarding the experience, Burotto highlighted that "this program is a great opportunity to meet colleagues and experts from around the world in sinology." He also reflected on the value of these initiatives: "It is important for deepening interest in sinology and for creating a sense of belonging and common identity in the goal of promoting understanding about China among the colleagues who have been invited. Likewise, it allows for firsthand knowledge of the diverse and complex realities of the country," he commented.
