The Millennium Nucleus on the Impacts of China in Latin America and the Caribbean (ICLAC) invites students enrolled in a graduate program (master’s or doctoral) to apply for the “ICLAC 2025 Scholarship.”
This call is aimed at regular students in master’s and doctoral programs at one of the hosting universities of the ICLAC Millennium Nucleus: Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, University of Chile, Catholic University of the North, and University of Tarapacá. The scholarship is open to all disciplines related to ICLAC’s objectives.
The main goal of the Nucleus is to deepen the understanding of the political consequences of China's "capital boom" in Latin America over the past twenty years, both in its socioeconomic and cultural dimensions. Notably, ICLAC has two main lines of research: Chinese actors and their strategies in Latin America, and the subnational impacts of China’s investment and trade in Latin America.
REQUIREMENTS
- Enrollment in a master’s or doctoral program
- Proposal for a thesis topic or final project (maximum 1 page). It should include a title, research questions, and a summary of the literature.
- Motivation letter (maximum 1 page)
- CV (maximum 2 pages)
CONDITIONS
- Participation in ICLAC activities (planning meetings, dissemination activities, conference participation, document preparation, etc.).
- A collaboration plan must be agreed upon with one of the ICLAC researchers.
BENEFITS
- Annual gross incentive of up to CLP 2,500,000
- Connection with academic members of the ICLAC Millennium Nucleus.
- Opportunity for academic development, including co-authorship of scientific articles (other than the thesis).
- Option to join as a thesis student of the ICLAC Millennium Nucleus if supervised by one of the core researchers. In this case, the scholarship recipient may receive an additional CLP 300,000 honorarium during 2025.
