Seminar "Approaches to the study of relations between China and Latin America"

On Thursday, March 16, the seminar "Approaches to the study of relations between China and Latin America: Representations, interactions and migration" was held, with keynote lectures by Pablo Blitstein from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Enrique Rodríguez Larreta from the East China Normal University, and Patricia Palma, from the Universidad de Tarapacá and principal researcher of the ICLAC Millennium Nucleus.

Researchers from different universities participated in the activity, among them Gonzalo Maire from Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez, Laura Tavolacci from Universidad Andrés Bello, Andrés Bórquez, principal researcher of the ICLAC Millennium Nucleus and professor at the Institute of International Studies of Universidad de Chile.

During the seminar, various ways of working on China from Latin America were discussed, including exchanges on issues of economic thought, anthropology and cartographies. The seminar also addressed the migration policies and restrictions on the entry of Chinese citizens in Chile and Latin America in the early twentieth century.

The activity, jointly organized by the alternate director of the ICLAC Millennium Nucleus, María Montt, and the postdoctoral researcher of the Institute of History, José Miguel Vidal, was well attended by undergraduate and graduate students, academics and the general public. The talk was held with the support of the Support Fund for the Organization of Scientific Meetings and Interdisciplinary Seminars 2022 UC, ANID Fondecyt 3210088, ICLAC Millennium Nucleus and the Center for Asian Studies UC.
