From September to December 2024, Renzo Burotto, a Master’s student in International Studies at the Institute of International Studies (IEI) and thesis student at the Millennium Nucleus ICLAC, will be undertaking a research internship at the School of Journalism and Communication at Tsinghua University in China.
During his stay, Burotto will work under the supervision of Dr. Zhao Yuezhi, Distinguished International Fellow in Residence at the school and Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
“I will be working with her team of graduate students on the impact and perceptions of China in Latin America, particularly observed in the Latin American press, as well as the interest in writing and covering news about China that is evident in these media,” he comments.
Regarding the cooperative relationship with the institution, Burotto mentions, “I believe that friendship and cooperation will last for a long time, creating an important network that allows us to stay in touch and continue deepening our joint research [...] My visit to China, for the first time, has confirmed my interest in continuing to study this country and in building bridges between both nations, to bring both sides closer together and assist all Chileans who wish to learn about the People’s Republic.”
Renzo Burotto's master’s research is directed by researcher Andrés Bórquez and focuses on the thoughts of various generations of Chinese leadership, particularly the importance of China’s modern history in international relations and the formulation of the People's Republic’s foreign policy.
