New ICLAC Case Study report addresses the Chilean salmon farming industry and the presence of China

The new case study “Chilean salmon farming and the presence of China”, written by Johannes Rehner, ICLAC Principal Investigator and the Director of Geography at UC, together with Antonia Lorie and Florencia Muñoz of UC Geography, addresses the salmon industry in Chile and its environmental impacts, in addition to the Chinese presence in the market.

The case study focuses on the case of the purchase of the Chilean company Australis by Joyvio, a Chinese company established in Chile in 2012, the only direct Chinese investment in the sector, and the current legal conflicts resulting from this transaction.

The report presents a detailed analysis of Chilean salmon farming, its characteristics, origins, production processes, key players, and the impacts of the industry in economic, environmental, and territorial matters.

This case study represents a valuable contribution to the understanding of the Chilean salmon industry and the presence of China inside it. You can download the document here.
